thing 23

I think the 23 things was interesting and exciting. There is so much out there, that we only probably only hit the tiip of the iceberg. I think that we should do more and learn more of the new technology that is out there. Technology is changing the way we live, and keeping up with it becomes a nightmare. We should have to keep up to date every so often. Thank you to the multitypes for taking charge and making us participate, it was a great experience, I hope that we will have more opportunities to do this and to have more time to explore what we have done. I think that I am going to go back a second time and go over the things again, and maybe I might pick up something that I missed.

DONE and Finished with this journey, it was incredible.

thing 22

Wow --- what a learning experience. There is so many things out there, It would be great to find time to spend on each one. I wish that I had more time to learn more. I do want to try to keep up with the new items and the new technology. There are many new things coming out all of the time. I want to try to learn more items as I find them. I probably will want to go back and look at the items that I did do, also and maybe pick up something that I missed. This was a great learning experience and I hope that this will be offered again. It was fun, but also time consuming. I wish that I could put more time into these things, but I am going to try to learn a new item every week and learn something new . I think that the library profession needs to findl something like this every so often, to off er some new ideas and to learn more about it.

thing 21

I looked at Gather and Ning. There were a number of choices to look at. I looked at the GoodReads network and joined. I think that it will be interesting to see what other people are reading and what books they will recommend. I know, I am always wondering what other people think of books and books that might purchase for your media center. It was a very easy group to join and there were a number of books that I was interested and read about what others were saying. I did join the 23 things Ning and there was some interesting people on this site already and I hope that many more people will join. I do think that we need some sites just for media specialists and public librarians to talk about things and issues. I tried to upload the badge to my blog, but I was having problems, I will try to do it at home, it is probably the school server blocking the site.

thing 20

I liked Facebook more than My Space. I can see where people and libraries can use them. Both Facebook and My Space are very much of a social network that has an appeal for younger and teenage people. I also looked at the libraries on My Space. I see that they started groups that are hopefully going to grow and prosper. The Wall on Facebook was interesting.

thing 19

I think that Podcasts are neat. They are short and sweet, on many different subjects. I believe they can be educational also. I think that watching a podcast after the fact, can be good to the point, but if you were participationg in the podcast, you would be able to ask questions during the show. Podcasts could be used in the schools if they were previewed first. I know that a few podcasts that I have watched were interesting and useful to me. Some podcasts have a lot of information in them and are very informative

thing 18

You Tube and Google Video are both very good video clips. I like the fact that you can watch a short clip about any subject. I think that the small pictures are a problem, they need to be bigger and I know that you can make them bigger, but it would be distortated. I do think that there are some very good videos that are educational, but there are alot of videos that I would not want students to use or view. I think that the videos would be a distraction to students, because they would not be focusing on their work, but watch videos all day long. I am also sure that most schools will block You Tube from there servers. I do have a You Tube account but I don't use it very much.

thing 17

The Elm resources are great. There is so much stuff, that it would take a long time to go through each resource and use it. I have put the elm link on our web page, and hopefully it is being used. I have talked to students about some of the resources that are on this site. The Page composer feature was nice and user friendly. I can see putting a lot of information on the page, and maybe even put more of my lessons that use technology on this site. I think that putting information on websites is a great way or great place to have all oof the information on one place. The peer review section was nice and I think that it will be useful to students. The Net Library was a great place with enormous amounts of information at ones finger tips. The Search features was amazing, there are many places that I wish that I had time to explore, but will do that when I find time, I think that Net Library was my favorite site of all of them.

thing 15

I looked at Second Life. It was a neat program that had a number of designs. I had a hard time moving around, the directions seem easy, the introduction. It seems easy, if you know exactly what you are doing. The orientation seemed very long and very time consuming. I do have an account on Second Life and I will spend more time on it, when I can find time. It seems like a program like Second Life will be a program that would be useful to students, but I feel that someone has to put some requirements or specifications on the site to block certain things from going on. There is some adult content that would need to be monitored and addressed.

I think games are nice, but would be better suited for a public library, then a school library. Most school media centers don't allow games and our policy is not to let students play games during the school day. This is a policy that is mostly likely in most schools, but I also think that the servers would be clogged also.

thing 16

I recently put the Research Project Calculator on the Library Website. I have shown a few teachers how to use it and have shown some students how to use it. I think that this is a great site that will get more use once students and people become more aware of the site and its uses. I am planning on showing this site to my students in the future. There are a great number of uses for this site. I think that the Assignment Calculator will be a great help to students doing research papers. and it will help them focus on the items that they need to accompolish in a certain amount of time.

thing 14

Library Thing was very fun. It was a nice tool to use and had many features that were interesting. I think that If I had time on my hands, that I would try to find all of the books in my personal collection and add it to the site that I created, but I will need to find time to do that. It took me a while to figure out how to use it, but after I played with it a while, it seems to be very easy to do and user friendly. It would be great if all of the schools and everyone would put their collections on this site.

thing 13

I took a session at the Fall conference on I google and started a page that I need to get back to and update. I think that there are many options on I google and I need to explore more. I did look at the Onlince Calendars, which are very nice and user friendly, but they are not for me.. I know that If I started one that I would not keep it up, I like the stickees better, but I will give the online calendars a try. I did like backpack that was a very nice site with a lot of features that I could use , If I take the time to organize my organizing. It will take some time to get use to using these tools, but I can see good uses for them.

thing 12

I looked at the four sites in this thing. Newsvine was the one that I liked the best, because it was easier for me to read and to navigate, and the national news was very abundant. There are features that I found that were easy to use and some that I need to have more time to investigate.

I did like that you can post them to other sites, this was a very interesting feature that I hope that more sites will use. I think that sharing these sites will be come more and more in the feature, as time and technology change.

Digg, Reddit and Mixx had some very good things, and had some very useful tools, but I was happier with Newsvine. I did like that they are being updated all of the time, that is a very good feature, so the information is very current and accurate.

thing 11

I think the delicious and tagging are easy to do. The Delicious program is a very easy program to use. I have been putting a number of items in my delicious account. I think that it is a easy way to put all kinds of websites in one sport. To check them on a daily basis will be interesting and can be time consuming. I think that making tags was easy, and putting things together will help save time in the long run. Delicious is a very easy program to navigate and it is fun to put things together.

I think that putting library things together will be easy using delicious. Libraries will need to have accounts like this set up to make their life easier.

thing 10

Wikis seem to be easy to work with. Wikipedia is one of the fastest growing encyclopedias and one of the fastest places to find information. It seems like there are wikis on a lot of subjects. I am starting to search more on wikipedia and wikis than any other programs out there, because of the vast amount of information that is there.

It would be fun just to take some part of a day and just look and wikis and even try to make one.

thing 9

I looked at Zoho Writer and Google Writer, both are about the same, except Google Writer was easier to get in to . I think that google writer and zoho writer will take the place of works and word documents. The Google writer has a few new features that are unique and very different than the works and work documents like microsoft works and microsoft word. The editing seems to be easier in Google writer that zoho writer. Google writer to me, was much easier to work with. I put a lot of my personal things in google writer and it seemed take everything that I have done.

Editing the document was very difficult to get to, but after spending a great amount of time on this, It was easy, once I got to the right place and to play with it for a while.

I think that a history person would like to have fun with this. It would be a great way to have many history documents at your fingers and just think if you can edit them, wow that would even change history.

thing 8

I don't do that much with pictures and picture taking, but to make a scrapbook of pictures and to put together a slide show is fun. A photo album can no be made in to a picture trail. The picture trail is a way to use pictures to put them in a running order and to order the pictures in a sequence, much like a story board. Picture trail is a easy program to use. The other sites on this thing were interesting. I look as the Flicker and others but have not played around enough with them to get a show up and running, but someday when I have time--- no one has time with all the things going on in libraries---- I will.

I also looked a efolio and decided to put more time in to this. There is a lot of features that seem to be in useful for everyone that uses that programs. I think that efolio will be the future of putting many different things together about your self and what you have done in your life.

thing 7

I really think that IM is a place where people meet and talk on a regular basis. It seems that people need to communicate regularly on the phone, or cell phone, but instant messinger is the way of the future. I think that most people will be chatting when they are on the computer to one another. It is a trend that most schools are going to have to either allow or stop depending on their situation, texting is also becoming a new trend that students are using.

In terms of webinars, I think that they are useful. It will let people participate in a program or a discussion that you are missing. It is the new ITV as we had it before. Many differents universities are using more webinars and distance learning to meet the needs of its students, right know with the way things cost and the economy going, the webinars are just like being there, except that you don't get to communicate with others.

thing 6

This is a picture from the same place that I used in Thing 4, but a different view, I like the different levels of this library, makes it interesting to see what is going on at each level.

This was a easy program to use. It was a fun way to upload pictures and make online generators fun. A very fun way to do this. I took a picture that I found using flicker and used this to make a design and upload the picture.

Thing 5

Here is my attempt to spell words. I think that Flicker has many options for students and people to learn how to spell words. This was a challenging exerisce to learn how to find the letters and then play with the different types of letters that are on flicker, then to actually make a word. Wow. It was very interesting to page through the letters and find the one that you want.

The photos can be found of many different things to make words or patterns or many different things. It would be nice to put pictures in order and put pictures in any arrangement that you would like. It was fun to go through this and make

a word. I picked Roseau because that was only six letters and because it is where I am currently teaching. I can see many different uses for this .

I think that using this as a way to communicate and have students do a project with using pictures to tell a story is a great
way to show how to put things in order.

Using this as a learning tool to work in the education world is a great way for
learning new technologies

Some students learn by pictures, some learn by doing and some learn by reading.

Thing 4

This Picture is from flicker and it is the Library for the Faculty of Philology at the Free University Berlin, Germany(Architect: Norman Foster). A very nice picture of a library. I like the sky view and the long open concept that it brings to the picture

Here is a picture of a library that would be awesome. I found this picture using flicker. I have been looking at various pictures of libraries, and some are very interesting and unique.

Flicker has many ways of posting pictures and many options that I will need to explore. It seems to be a easy program to use with pictures and was easy to upload. The pictures are on many differents subjects. I did explore a few other subjects and found them interesting

thing 3

After reviewing all of the rss feeds, this can be time consuming, and very interesting. There are so many to choose from and to really get a grasp on all of the feeds that are are out there, will take a lot of time. There are some that I am going to try to keep up with, I did find this interesting and very fun.

Thing 2

I think that Library 2.0 has new ideas that many of us will be using in the future. I think that the library world is changing and we need to adapt to change.

The Library 2.o hopefully will help all of us learn some of the new trends that we are not aware of or we had not really had time to look at.

I am hoping that by doing these things that I will learn some new technology and new trends that I am unaware of and looking for new ideas to help myself as well as the library that I am in charge of running.
